James Suckling 92-93/100A solid and tight Rol Valentin with blackberry, dark-chocolate and blackcurrant aromas and flavors. Medium body, a firm center-palate and a muscular, toned finish.
Neal Martin Vinous 85-87/100
The 2023 Rol Valentin has a slightly candied bouquet with maraschino cherries and crushed strawberries, just missing the precision and complexity of some of its peers. The palate is medium-bodied with a saccharine entry, chewy tannins and a rather forced finish. A second bottle showed no improvement.
Antonio Galloni Vinous 92-94/100
The 2023 Rol Valentin is bright, fresh and effusive. Soaring floral notes and bright acids meld into a core of blue/purplish fruit. Medium in body and finely cut, the 2023 delivers the goods. Vibrant saline note extend the finish. Rol Valentin is a blend of parcels in Saint-Étienne-de-Lisse and Saint-Émilion proper, specifically in the Corbin sector. This is a fine vintage for Rol Valentin. Tasted three times.
