James Suckling 93-94/100Medium-sweet with a subtle spiciness. Lots of dried fruit with a floral and lemongrass undertone. Honeysuckle. Hints of lemon and dried apple. Excellent balance and finesse. 80% semillon and 20% sauvignon blanc.
Neal Martin Vinous 92-94/100
The 2023 Bastor-Lamontagne is more neutral in style than its peers—more timid at the moment, with delicate touches of orange pith, lemon curd and saffron. The palate is well balanced with a fine bead of acidity and notes of quince and marmalade. It’s not overly complex, but I applaud the tension and elegance on the finish that makes me want another sip. Boasting slightly lower residual sugar than other Sauternes, this has an easy-drinking quality without compromising complexity.
Antonio Galloni Vinous 92-94/100
The 2023 Bastor-Lamontagne is terrific. In fact, this is one of the best vintages I have tasted. Passion fruit, pineapple, tangerine peel and mint are all beautifully lifted. Bastor-Lamontagne is always on the lighter, more airy side of Sauternes. The 2023 offers plenty of that finesse, but with a bit more mid-palate creaminess than in recent years. This is very fine effort.
