DecanterJane Anson- 93 - This is in the northern stretches of the Médoc, near to the Estuary, and has a ruby red colour, not quite as inky as most in the vintage, although still structured, with spiced and deeply fleshy black cherry and raspberry fruits. Real character, with turmeric and white pepper studding the palate, another great vintage for G d'Estournel, becoming a real value pick, maintaining freshness and accessiblity in a challenge vintage to deliver those two charactertistics - helped by the cool nights at this northerly location, and the 200mm of rain that fell here in June. 20% new oak. Earlier harvest since 1989, from September 16 to 27.

Antonio Galloni- 89-91 - The 2022 G d'Estournel is a powerful, dense wine. Super-ripe dark cherry, plum, mocha, licorice and chocolate are all dialed up in this unabashedly exotic, full-throttle edition of the G. There's not much subtlety here, but I doubt that is what is intended for the châteaus Haut-Médoc. There's a bit more Cabernet Sauvignon from newer high-density plantings in this year's blend. Neal Martin- 88-90 - The 2022 G d'Estournel was picked from 16 to 27 September. It has an intense, opulent nose with black cherry, licorice and melted tar scents. The palate is medium-bodied with thickset tannins, bold, assertive and grippy with a chalky-textured finish. A muscular wine, this will require time just to shave its edges.
